Estrella is a master planned community located in Goodyear, Arizona. It is located in the Sonoran Desert Valley back in the foothills of the Sierra Estrella Mountains. Estrella is considered the southwest edge of the greater Phoenix Metro Area.
Estrella currently has over 14,000 residents and is a family friendly location along with being a great haven for retirees. The amenities in Estrella are second to none. The community is home to many parks and trails and is a great destination for an amazing outdoor lifestyle. The Estrella area is made up of three main communities which include Canta Mia, Montecito and Mountain Ranch. It is known as one of the best communities to raise children and is home to several A-rated schools.
Estrella was formerly controlled by the federal land reserve but was sold to Charles Keating in 1985. Shortly after they began construction on what are now known as North and South lakes. The lakes are each about 36 acres. The master planned community of Estrella had it’s inception in 1988.
In 1999 Estrella celebrated the grand opening of the Golf Club of Estrella. It is a Nicklaus designed golf club that offers an extreme challenge to golfers of any level. The club is home to the locally famous Players Grill which has an amazing menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner along with happy hours specials during the week.
Newland Communities acquired Estrella in 2005 and is still the community developer today. In 2010, Estrella welcomed Safeway as it’s largest tenant. This was an exciting time for all the residents of Estrella as they would no longer need to drive “down the hill” for groceries and other needs. Medical services have since been added with the addition of Banner Health Medical Center.
Located nearby the planned community is the Estrella Mountain Regional Park. The park officially opened in 1954. It is made up of nearly 20,000 acres of mountain and desert terrain. The park is great for hiking and biking on it’s many miles of trails. It is also a great place for wildlife and bird sightings. The park hosts ranger guided tours but feel free to go exploring on your own as well. Estrella Mountain Regional Park is open 365 days a year.
Just down the road from the regional park is the Phoenix International Raceway which is known locally as PIR. PIR officially opened back in 1964 and is now a prime venue for 2 major NASCAR events each year.
A major attraction to the Phoenix Valley each year is Spring Training Baseball. Located just to the North of Estrella, Goodyear is home to the Goodyear Ballpark. The ballpark is Spring Training home to the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians. The ballpark officially opened back in 2009 and is know throughout the valley as one of the best venues to catch a game. Spring Training baseball can be visited at the ballpark every day throughout the month of March.
